Every September, the English village of Colyford gives geese the starring role. The Colyford Goose Fayre returns on Saturday, September 26, with a medieval-costume procession, traditional games, and a village day built around a very old local fair.
The organizers trace the event’s roots to a 1208 grant for a seven-day fair. The modern celebration was revived in 1980 and now brings villagers and visitors together on the last Saturday of September.
The official village page describes a colorful procession, medieval costumes, storytellers, Punch and Judy, traditional games, and the famously slippery-sounding greasy pole. Proceeds support local groups and the next year’s fayre.
